Who’s the Most Important Person to Believe in Your Dreams?

October 19, 2016

whos-the-most-important-person-to-believe-in-your-dreamsWe all know that the when we get an idea, goal, or dream for ourselves it’s so exciting! Whether you decided you’ve had enough and you’re going to work out, or if you set a goal f
or yourself personally or professionally we want to shout it from the rooftops.

When we tell others of our dreams we subconsciously are looking for hints on how they feel about it. Most of the time we can read their facial expressions, posture, and even their tone of voice to see how they really feel about what we’ve just told them.

I know from personal experience that many times people aren’t as “excited” as we are about our dreams or they just flat out tell us,

“Seriously? There is no way.”

“Why don’t you think of something more realistic.”

“Don’t even waste your time.”

The most important person to believe in your dreams is YOU!

When you are pumped and ready to dive into accomplishing your dream it really sucks when others don’t support you. It even weighs down on you and makes you start to second guess yourself.. “Maybe they are right. Maybe I cannot do it.”

What’s Your Dream?

At the end of the day, only you can change the outcome of your life. You are the only person that matters. Why? Because you are the only one that can make those daily changes to help yourself reach your ultimate goals.

Have you decided to go back to school?

Do you want to start working out to reach a specific fitness goal?

Do you want to move up the corporate ladder?

Do you want to become more financially stable?

Once you’ve picked something. Go toward that dream and do not look back.

Facing Negative People

Many times when someone confides in us what their dream is we naturally put ourselves in their shoes. If it seems like their goal is unreachable or unattainable by us then we, as people, naturally turn it down. “There is no way she’ll be able to run a half marathon. I’m more fit than her and I can barely run a mile.”

Like I said, others’ negative comments can dampen our mood and our dreams and stop our momentum right in its tracks.

When someone does this to you don’t take it personal. I know, easier said than done right? Know that they just don’t think anyone can realistically reach that goal. But you do! You have the power and passion to get there.

Quick Tips for Staying Motivated

Write Down Your Goals

If you write down your goals and visually see them every day it will constantly be on your mind, thus helping you to stay motivated and focused.

Prove Them Wrong

Nothing is better than when someone doesn’t believe in you or your dream and you are able to show them that you did accomplish everything you set out to do. Use any negative feedback as motivation to propel you forward. Do not let it stop you!

In a perfect world, everyone would be “on board” with our dreams and be there along the way to help us achieve them. But that is not the world we live in. Many people’s negativity or life issues can ultimately wear on us and even drag us down. You need to learn how to navigate these waters. Do not let other’s negative comments effect you from reaching the dreams you have for yourself.

What about you? Ever told someone your dream and they gave you negative feedback? Please share in the comments below and let us know what helped you stay on track!

Great read, Gretchen! I am faced with this sort of negativity almost daily, and it is brought up even without sharing goals. “No way you’ll keep that cheery attitude. Life is going to wear you down.” As you mentioned, I use that negativity as ammo!
Keep on trucking, stay focused on the positive, and chase those dreams, yall.

Carrie, thank you so much for commenting. Great point you bring up. People tend to bring us down not only in our dreams, but also in our everyday life.
