For any parents out there, you know that having kids is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. When you’re pregnant you envision your life to go a specific way and plan everything accordingly. Then your baby arrives BAM! Everything you envisioned goes out the window. Here are some things that I never thought I would do as a parent that we do now.
- Bribing your kid/s Ok, so we don’t always bribe our kids, but when the going gets tough sometimes it’s a pretty handy tool to get things done. Examples of when we’ve tried to bribe the kids with candy or other things are: taking medicine, potty training, waking up in the morning, and eating.
- iPad Time This one is a hot topic for many people. Everyone has an opinion on whether or not toddlers/kids should be on iPads or other electronic devices. When I was pregnant I was that mom that promised myself my kids would not get any time on any electronic devices. Although we do try to limit the kids on these devices they are such a life saver when you are at the doctor’s office, in the car, or just when you are completely and utterly exhausted and need a break.
- Fast Food I’m pretty sure every parent out there swears that they won’t give their kid any fast food when they are pregnant or their baby is really young. Although I cook most of the week some days we come home and because of my lack of preparation or when the kids are being extremely picky, we opt for fast food.
- Sleep Out When Elise, my oldest, was born she was pretty much glued to me 24/7. There were a couple of times that Dustin’s parents asked if she could stay with them for a couple of days. Since they live an hour and a half away I said absolutely not! What happens if she cries, gets hurt, gets sick, misses me?! Now, if they offer to keep the kids, the two oldest ones, Dustin and I always take their offer up! No questions asked!
When you have kids, especially more than one, life can get pretty overwhelming. We read all the books and articles in preparation, but I am the first to admit it’s hard! Raising kids is tough. While I thought that the list above would have never happened in our household, but when you are actually raising them you have to do what is best for your family.
What about you? What are some things that you never thought you would do as a parent that you do now?
